ΒΟΥΤΙΕΣ ΣΤΗΝ ΠΡΑΓΑ.......26 ΔΕΚΕΜΒΡΙΟΥ.....

Dec. 26, or Boxing Day, as it is called, is the annual day for an odd spectacle in many parts of the world: swimming in freezing cold waters. In Prague on Monday, 182 people jumped into the Vltava River in 2 degree Celsius waters to swim in 100-, 300- and 750-meter heats. Participants were between the ages of 13 and 90, with some coming from Germany, Poland and Slovakia to take part. The extreme swimming event has taken place since the 1950s and is held in honor of Czech athelete Alfred Nikodem by the Prague Winter Swimming Club. Participants refer to themselves as the "otuzilci," or the "hardy." Winter swims have also become a tradition in other European cities, including Berlin, Barcelona and London.
