German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle

German foreign minister Guido Westerwelle spoke more bluntly than other leaders today, when for his views on the collapse of talks over the creation of a unity government in Greece.

Westerwelle called the failure a "bitter blow' to confidence in Greece, warning:
What Greece needs now is dependability and the will to reform to help it get over the mountain, in close collaboration with its European partners....
The reforms to achieve this are hard and painful but they are the only way back to growth and competitiveness. There is no alternative.
